Error-Free Decision Making
Decision making is a key part of our daily lives. Given the position we occupy and the responsibilities on our shoulders, we are driven into making decisions. However, these decisions affect us or people around us positively or negatively. As sensitive as decision making is to our lives and future, I have realized that a lot of people with history of professional excellence and unquestionable character have at one time or the other made decisions that can be likened to be "Unforced Errors". On the other hand, some people have paid closer attention to the details underpinning their choices and have in that sense, avoided "Unforced Errors". Then again, what guarantees the outcome of our decision? Are there parameters to measure or help to determine the potential outcome of the decisions we make because at the time of making decisions, we anticipate positive outcome but that is not always the case. Think of football coaches, they strategize, invest resources in quality players, study the dynamics of the game and make a decision by selecting the "right calibre" of people but that also doesn't guarantee victory either. Regardless of the dynamic outcome of decision making, the focal point should be to think through the actions from different perspectives, understand the implications of the tentative outcome and benchmark them against certain principles.
